![]() This was a quick sketch done on a piece of scrap Bristol that I inked while waiting for the ink to dry on various commissions and a cover. I eventually added way more details to it than I had originally planned. This is me trying to do a "clean" drawing. Cripes. I blame the OCD, I blame myself. I was going to toss this but Sarah liked it, so I didn't. I'm probably going to redraw it at some point to see if I can do a cleaner version with less mistakes. "6 by 8", brush marker/pen and ink/white correction ink in a bunch of places because I ink like a chimp. Medusa is a Jack Kirby design, as I'm sure you folks know. And love. http://imago.hitherby.com/?p=8262 I have a new novel coming relatively soon—I’ve just finished the “junk whole sections and revise whole characters” stage of editing and am moving on to the “read over and over again, tweaking paragraphs, sentences, and words as I go” stage. This is Enemies Endure. It’s a ~163,000 word Hitherby legend from late chapter 2 and early chapter 3; it’s mostly new content, but some key parts are revised versions of existing legends. I’m still making decisions on how exactly I’m going to proceed—things like: * will I serialize it or just release it in ePub/createSpace form? Once it’s out, then I’ll be taking the Unclean Legacy off sale, and possibly having a sale on Fable of the Swan. Or … not! This is also a reminder that Unclean Legacy is currently available in print form from CreateSpace (see sidebar), and that there is a forthcoming Nobilis supplement: Nobilis:Antithesis Because apparently when I sit down to just write a little bit about Deceivers, literally aiming for a 32-page supplement to dump out there for .99, a beautiful 176-page book is what happens. It’s actually going to be awesome; it’s just kind of goofy how unexpected it was. ^_^ More details on that as they come in. Best wishes, Jenna Fri, Jun. 1st, 2012, 05:47 pm
Removing a mystery, too much going on, spare characters... Looked great, naturally. Trailers: The Pact, the questionable-taste idea of restaging The Hills Have Eyes in Chernobyl, but never mind that, JAWS! Fri, Jun. 1st, 2012, 11:57 am
Bad Girls (Not the band that Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame is now in - they might not have even been born when I saw these guys!) were the first headline band that I saw that sucked big time. I'd seen some headliners that I wasn't overly fond of, or who weren't all that good but not compared to Bad Girls. They were terrible. However the reason why Nck, Donna, Neil and I went to the gig was for Chunk who were pretty good, as were Silver Hearts (the opening band), so it wasn't too bad really. The Quireboys had a fantastic stage set for their gig at The Town & Country Club. The whole stage had been transformed into a replica bar area. It was quite elaborate in many ways, although gave the impression of a 'spit and sawdust' joint, and suited the bands style perfectly. The band themselves were very good, but then a lot of their music was pretty upbeat and couldn't help but get you in the mood. Giant, the main support, were fairly disappointing but Jagged Edge (the first band on that night) were actually pretty good themselves. Good fun gig. Price: £6.00 ![]() Fri, Jun. 1st, 2012, 11:52 am
Giant International were a fun band live. I'd seen them supporting The Otherside (GIG 035) the pervious month and they impressed enough that I headed into central London on a Wednesday evening to catch them headlining the Marquee themselves. Support came in the form of a band called The Name (who were also pretty good) and another band called Clay People (who weren't so good). Price: Unknown ![]() Fri, Jun. 1st, 2012, 11:50 am
This was my first gig at Camden Palace. Camden Palace would become one of my 'second homes' for years to come, mainly due to the brilliant 'Feet First' club night that took place every Wednesday. A student/indie/alternative club night with very cheap entry and cheap drinks in an incredibly majestic and labyrinthine building that was originally a theatre that was opened in 1900. This night was the start of a massive love affair with the place, and would lead to many, many fantastic nights and great memories to come. In fact I was there again only a few weeks ago (although now it's called Koko), 22 years later, seeing Chicane. US:UK were one of the many fledgling dance/indie crossover bands like Pop Will Eat Itself (and later and much more famously The Prodigy) that were on the scene mixing up genres. They had tracks such as "Yuppies Can't Dance" and "Will You Still Love Me, Will You Still Care, When You Wake Up In The Morning And I Ain't Crimped My Hair". I'm sure I've got a 12" single of theirs somewhere... Anyway, the set-up was a club night followed by a live band at midnight (in this case US:UK) followed by the continuation of the club night until about 3am when we all got turfed out in search of night buses. There was a load of us that first night (Karen, Jim, Justin, Lucy, Tracey, Penny, Sara, Chris, Ed, Emma, Julia, Mark, Jan, etc...) and it was also nice to go clubbing in a slightly more 'Indie' club (even though they still played a load of goth/electronic - but that was the indie scene at the time) as the clubs I was used to up til then were mainly goth/metal ones. US:UK were actually mediocre in the end. Price: Unknown (But probably £1 with a flyer). ![]() |
